I would lube belt really good and let it soak in overnight. Thumping noise is normally the seam going over front and rear rollers.

Could be a very worn walking belt that can cause that , try loosen the walking belt so it does not run when you start unit up, only motor and front roller should spin, if you still get a LS1 then its a controller.

Do you have the complete model number its located on a sticker down on the frame close to the floor when you fold unit up. Also you can look under the hood cover and there is a piece of paper inside a envelope that has the model number on the paper
