Nordictrack 2950 speed inconsistent

Our Nordictrack 2950 with about 1k miles has had some problems with belt speed. We bought the treadmill secondhand from a gym that was closing but tested it prior to purchase-- it worked great for a short (1 mile) run. The move to our house required disassembly and reassembly which seemed straightforward enough. Since then it has not been able to go for more than a few minutes. The ways that it fails vary slightly but this is the most common pattern:

The belt will start out with a fluctuating speed when no one is on it. When we start to run it will work for a minute or less, then the speed will drop substantially, then stop.

Initially the motor controller had a red light that blinked 4 times on repeat and we replaced the motor controller. Now it does not blink anymore but the problem persists. We have lubed the treadmill belt several times and have adjusted the tension. I thought the electric components might be getting too hot so we took off the cover and directed a fan to blow across the motor control board heat sink. No change. There is a red light on the incline motor controller that blinks 4 times then 2 times on repeat, however the problem persists whether or not we try to use the incline function.

Please help! We don't want to have to consign this treadmill to the garbage bin.

  • Do you have the complete model number its located on a sticker down on the frame close to the floor when you fold unit up. Also you can look under the hood cover and there is a piece of paper inside a envelope that has the model number on the paper
