Drawing too many amps

edited August 13 in Treadmill Problems
I have a Life Fitness T5 treadmill that keeps tripping my circuit breaker, even after moving it to a 20 amp circuit. I gather that I probably need to replace the motor. Do you think that after 4 years of regular use (by one person) that its normal for the motor to have this problem? Is this possibly the result of having had the treadmill belt too tight (it's loose now and still tripping)?

Anybody know where to get a AK59-00148-0000 (T5 motor) for a reasonable price? I see this one (https://www.sparepartsspot.com/product/motor-3-00-hp-120v/) but it looks super sketchy. More reputable sites list it as out of stock.

Thanks

  • When does unit trip breaker, at start up etc? why do you think its a drive motor that is bad? Could be a worn walking belt.

Certainly the belt is worn. Debris comes off of it and accumulates behind the treadmill. But if the belt isn't slipping, why would that burn the motor?

The breaker can get tripped immediately upon starting the motor, or during the run (as much as 37 minutes in).
  • A worn walking belt will cause friction which makes motor and lower board to work that much harder and they start to heat up and the will either trip breaker or just shut off.
