NordicTrac C 1650 burning smell...?

I bought this new 14 months ago and have had no issues until now.
Belt does not move on lower speeds and when on higher speeds it is inconsistent. It slows and then speeds up, etc.
And of course the smell is like an electrical/rubber problem.

Any ideas?

    Could be either a motor or motor controller, if its a new unit I would contact nordictrack.

    I currently have a 3.5 hp motor in my c1650. If I decide to replace the motor can I use a 4 hp motor?

    The 3.5 hp is fine to use , you just need to replace it, I have seen 4 hp motors burn up also.
