Proform 505 cst

Treadmill is now 4 years old but only now being used. Last run the motor stopped abruptly around 1 hour in. I had been smelling burning smell and ordered the proform maintenance kit but it hadn't arrived yet.

Tried resetting overnight but motor would not engage even though the display said everything was going normal.

I untightened the walking belt to see if the motor would go with less stress and that didn't work. I loosened up the motor and removed the belt from the motor and that didn't work either.

I pulled the red and black wires off the controller and connected them to a 12 v battery; the motor turned so I bought the control board and connected that. Wires were correctly reconnected. I tightened the motor belt and motor back into place. I tensioned the walking belt back to where I thought it was before.

Attempted to use it and the walking belt would stop and squeal when I stepped on it. I tensioned the belt until it wouldn't stop or lurch when I was on it. Thought I was good and continued testing at 2 mph. it seemed to be moving faster than before the repair. After a minute or so the motor stops working like the initial problem but when I hit stop and start, the motor will engage again. After another minute, it stops. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Sounds like maybe the walking belt needs to lube really good or replaced. When installed new controller did you calibrate the new controller.
  • I did use the proform oil on the belt after I installed the new controller. I thought it was good to go until I attempted to use it. Is there any info out there on how to calibrate the speed?
  • I've tried the calibration instructions. I've tried the alternate instructions. I can only get it to say std after pressing the buttons l. If I press the speed up I can switch it to something that says n7Et. I left it on std and each time I hit stop, it gave a new message. One was for the incline calibration but nothing to calibrate the speed
